  • Are Loft Hatches a Standard Size?

Loft Hatches are available in varying sizes, however this is dependent on their manufacturing material. Plastic Loft Hatches are typically designed to fit a structural opening of 562mm (width) x 726mm (length) with there being no option for a made to measure size. Metal Loft Hatches on the other hand come supplied in a variety of stock sizes. With made to measure sizes also an option when you have a loft opening with dimensions outside of the norm.
  • Are Plastic Loft Hatches Fire Resistant?

Plastic loft hatches are not fire resistant as its structure is not suitable to prevent a fire from spreading to other areas. A fire resistant loft hatch is typically manufactured from a mild steel and insulated. We offer the Loft Centre Fire Rated Loft Hatch available in multiple sizes from stock as a fire resistant hatch. These provide fire protection of a 1 hour duration and come tested to the British Standard BS476 Part 22.
  • Are Loft Hatches Fully Insulated?

Most loft hatches that are purchased whether it be a plastic type or fire rated metal option will come with varying levels of insulation. We are able to offer a Plastic Loft Hatch (P5370 L) that comes with additional insulation, providing a U value of 0.35 thus being compliant with Part L of the building regulations. Timber loft hatches that have been constructed by a builder, carpenter or DIY enthusiast are unlikely to be insulated. However it is quite a simple process to insulate this type of hatch by attaching your choice of insulating material.
