What is Loft Boarding? All you Need to Know about Loft Boarding

In this FAQ we’ll discuss common questions we get asked about loft boarding, including what it is and best practices.

What is Loft Boarding?

Loft boarding entails fitting boards to the floor of your roof,  increasing floor space in your home by up to 50%. This is perfect for families looking for additional storage space, or even living space. With the addition of a fitted loft ladder, boarding your loft will offer a safe and easily accessible space.

Loft boarding is also a way to reduce heat loss. This is due to the fact that when loft boards are installed, insulation is often installed too. This creates an additional barrier to any heat escaping from the roof. Boarding a loft is a simple job, one that can be carried out DIY style to help keep costs down when you want to renovate parts of your home.

What Boards to use When Loft Boarding?

We'd recommend using purpose-built loft boards as they tend to have tongue and groove fittings for easy installation. They are also often shorter, and therefore are easier to get through your loft hatch.

How Much Does it Cost to Board a Loft?

There is no set price when it comes to loft boarding. However, the cost will depend on factors like how much space you have to board, type of board and if you do it yourself. Hiring a professional to do this job might cost you around upwards of £1,000, however the materials can cost as little as £300.
