Here, we review the TL24 and the TL30, two Youngman telescopic loft ladder options available from the Loft Centre. Youngman Telescopic Loft Ladders

Why a loft ladder?

Loft ladders allow safe access and more use of space within a building, whether for traditional attic storage or to turn into an extra room for games, hobbies or a quiet study with a south-facing roof window. All of these uses require a safe way to get up into and down from the loft, which is where the quality of a loft ladder becomes important.

Youngman Telescopic Loft Ladders - a step in the right direction?

Youngman supply two solidly built, well designed and modern loft ladder systems. Manufactured in corrosion resistant anodised aluminium, steel fixing brackets are supplied and safety features include fitted rubber feet to prevent slipping. Quality is assured through an EN131 kite mark and the ladders are recommended for residential and commercial usage. The two models appear durable and able to withstand tough usage with ease; their difference is in the range of compatible floor-to-floor heights.

Dimensions

While both models can be adjusted to three different height settings, the TL24 has a floor-to-floor range of 217 to 261 centimetres whereas the TL30 is suitable for drops of between 243 and 288 centimetres. In their stowed position, ladder length is similar whereas, during usage, the unit locks automatically at an angle of between 65 and 75 degrees. Like many loft ladders, these telescopic models are suitable for use with loft hatches measuring at least 60 cm x 51cm and that open downwards (only). An operating pole is included for manoeuvring the ladder into position with ease. The ladder width is a typical 40 centimetres with a usable and sturdy tread width of 31 centimetres, while its generous tread depth of 70 millimetres provides secure footing. Compatible metal loft exit grab rails are also available. The maximum working load of these telescopic ladders is 150 kilogrammes, making them suitable for almost all applications.

Easy to install

Youngman telescopic loft ladders do not require fiddly cutting to length, making installation relatively straightforward. Metal loft grab rails are also available in a choice of black or white; these may be fitted individually, or in matching pairs for extra safety. In addition to comprehensive instructions with colour photographs and full installation details, Loft Centre also has a helpful installation demonstration video: Youngman Telescopic Loft Ladders Installation Video

Alternatively, an Easiway three-section sliding model is available, which is suitable for higher reaches. Made from aluminium alloy, it features plastic slides for silent operation and comes with one metal handrail included. The weight limit for this model is 100 kilogrammes.
