3 Golden Rules to Comfortable Loft Living
Wide open living space is hugely appealing, which is why the interest in urban lofts have sky rocketed over the recent years, especially amongst people who are looking to create more space to live without the need for costly renovation to their homes.
No matter the size, nearly all lofts and attics are restricted when it comes to available space to use. But with a little ingenuity, they can be transformed into bright, comfortable living spaces for the whole family to enjoy.
Consider lighting
In the daytime, natural light pouring into your space is an asset, so you may want to consider installing a skylight. Any windows you may already have should be dressed with a simple sheer fabric or sheer blinds for covering that do not interfere with the daylight too much, but rather diffuse it.
If your ceilings are particularly low, you can ensure ample lighting during the evening hours with floor lamps and table lamps.

Artwork and colour
With the right use of colour, you can effectively create that much desired sense of space and openness. Avoid dark colours and opt for lighter, paler shades to create an airy feel. Choose furniture that has punches of colour along with more vibrant, livelier artwork to adorn the walls, and leave floors bare and 'unfinished' for a modern, spacious feel.
Stairs and access
Entry to an attic room will always involve transporting items up and down, from moving heavy furniture, to carrying cups of tea and other bits and bobs (just like we carry things upstairs everyday) so a sound, sturdy access solution is imperative. Especially in a family home.
A Spacesaver Staircase is an excellent choice for any attic room, as this provides a more permanent, inviting access solution that looks and feels just like a normal staircase. Whilst at the same time taking up very little space at all.
Alternatively, you can always opt for a Sliding loft ladder or Concertina loft ladder, as they both have the added benefit of being packed neatly and efficiently out of site when not being used, if that is something you prefer.
Both options provide safe, easy access to any attic room whilst at the same time making it feel like a genuine part of your home and not just an extra room that's been tacked on.
