Deciding How to Decorate Your New Loft Conversion
A brand new loft conversion is an exciting project. Even transforming a previously used loft into something completely different can be a joyous process, especially for those of you with a creative flare and a keen eye for interior design. It can be quite tempting just to jump right in without any serious preparation beforehand.
For others, however, a blank canvas can draw a creative blank. Once youve done away with how things used to look, youre then left with bare walls and a lot of empty space to fill. Either way you look at it, its important not to let the task get the better of you.
So with that being said, here are a few quick and simple tips to take under consideration when deciding how to decorate your new loft conversion.
When decorating a bedroom
If youre decorating a new bedroom, then be mindful of the low-ceilings that are typical of converted loft areas. So youll want to opt for a bed that stands fairly close to the floor. The same needs to be said for furniture, such as bedside tables and dressers, as well as using floor lamps instead of standing lamps.
Avoid clutter, and use matching colours for your walls and bedspread. This is generally best practice when decorating any bedroom, but juxtaposition in colours is much less forgiving in smaller spaces such as attics and lofts.
When decorating a living space
If youre using your loft as a family room or living area, then youll want to create as much open space as you can. Neutral colours are your best bet for creating the illusion of space, as opposed to darker, stronger tones.
Youll want to consider using a blind rather than curtains, as youll probably be using this room often - and blinds are better for adjusting light levels to a comfortable setting, whatever the time of day.
When decorating a storage room
Decorating for a storage room will be minimal, but youll still want it to be at least practical. Focus on good lighting - brighter than you would typically use for a living space - and easy access for large boxes and crates. You may even want to consider putting up some shelving to create more floorspace.
